BREEDING FOCUS - Cattle that do more work themselves

Our breeding programme focuses on enhancing hybrid vigour in our herd – i.e. the superiority in performance of crossbreds and hybrids over that of their pure bred parents.

Data from the Meat Animal Research Centre, USA, suggest the hybrid advantage can potentially deliver real world production gains of up to 25% (based on factors such as increased weaning weight and increased longevity). And that means better profits.

“When we sell weaners, we can put an extra $100 in our pockets, without having to do the extra work. The cattle just put the weight on themselves.”

Bob Butcher, The Land, June 10 2010.
